Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. On that day his twin brother was stillborn, they named him Jesse Garon Presley. His parents, Vernon and Gladys Presley, were very poor and young when they gave birth to the twins. It was very hard on Gladys having one of her children die, so she was extremely protective of Elvis. She quit her job at a garment factory to take care of him. She come not bare another child so she focused all of her maternal energy on Elvis. Vernon loved his son almost as much as Gladys did. He was determined to give his son a better life then they had when they were children. But it would be hard to give your child the attention he needs from prison.
When Elvis was three years old his father, Vernon, went to prison for forgery. Him and two friends sold a hog for four dollars, they thought this was an unfair amount so they changed the check to say fourty dollars instead. They were all sentenced to three year in prison. This took a toll on the Presley's not having the salary of the father so they moved in with Glady's cousin, Frank Richard. Gladys still loved Vernon and fought to get him out of prison. Without prevail she finally did, and he only served one of his three years in prison.
At the age of six Elvis started to attend school. Elvis was mesmerized by the radiators, indoor plumbing, and electric lighting at his school. He did not have all those luxeries at his home. Sense him and is mother were so close some of the other children began to notice. They teased and bullied him because he was shy and saying that he was a "mama's boy". He did not have many friends so instead he jumped into music (Gentry).
